Thackara Poster Series
A Promotional Project for a Hypothetical Lecture Series
Objective

We were asked to design a promotional campaign for a John Thackara lecture to be held at Miami University. The goal was to develop three posters and a companion postcard in order to promote this event, using an information graphic as a central visual. The infographics were based off of selected statistics from Thackara’s book, In the Bubble.

Solution

I found the most interesting statistics to be about issues in the medical field. In order to communicate the statistics, I used imagery that related to their respective topics: a thermometer for a statistic about doctors spending time with patients, bacteria for a stat about doctors not washing their hands, and so on. I turned these images into infographics themselves by filling portions of them with a red hue. I also built the project out to include a promotional piece to be passed out at the lectures: a band-aid box filled with band-aids that have shocking statistics on them. The piece is a testament to the idea that the medical field is so flawed, yet we are merely putting a band-aid on the overall issue.
